What Sixt's Growth Implies for Your Following Auto Rental

Last Updated on October 13, 2022 by Elizabeth

sixt-expands-1024x576-2.jpg

The name might not be as recognizable as Avis or Hertz. But Sixt Rent a Car has become a bigger fish in the North American rental car pond. The German firm expanded its footprint by scooping up U.S. locations from the recently bankrupt Advantage Rent a Car and has also added several Canadian locations. Here’s what Sixt’s expansion might mean for your future travels.

The Sixt fleet offers a nice mix of luxury car brands, including Cadillac, BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Mini and Land Rover.

Here’s Where Sixt is Expanding in the U.S.

The company now has about 100 locations in the U.S. and has ambitions for additional growth. Sixt now has locations at 36 major US airports, the company said in a recent earnings report.

In 2020, Sixt took over 10 airport car rental branches in the U.S. from Advantage Rent a Car. This allowed the firm to gain a presence in five new major markets and raising its profile in five others.

Ask AutoSlash for a Quote on a Cheap Car Rental

Sixt took over five new airport concessions at Boston (BOS), Houston (IAH) and three airports serving the greater New York City area (JFK, LGA and EWR). In addition, Sixt beefed up its existing presence at other U.S. airports, including Las Vegas (LAS), Orlando (MCO), Denver (DEN), Maui (OGG) and Honolulu (HNL). Sixt also recently opened a location at Lihue Airport (LIH) on Kauai in Hawaii.

That expansion in the U.S. has continued. As recently as fall of 2022, Sixt opened new branches in Charlotte, Baltimore, Cincinnati, Nashville and more.

Also in 2022, Sixt opened its first Canadian location in downtown Vancouver’s Library Square with another slated to open soon in Toronto.

Here’s What Sixt’s Expansion Means to You

Not only do these acquisitions make Sixt a bigger player in the North America, but it also helps the German firm overcome what has always been one of its persistent drawbacks. The company has never been a good choice for taking a long-range road trip, because with few locations, Sixt had been forced to limit the geographic region where you could take its vehicles to within a four-hour radius from one of the limited Sixt locations. Now, with a larger footprint, Sixt becomes a valid choice for more travelers—in the northeast as well as other places.

Don’t Forget to Sign up for Sixt Rewards

Even if you only rent a car once in a blue moon, it always makes sense to join the rental car company’s loyalty program so you can take advantage of benefits such as upgrades and other perks.

Let AutoSlash Track Your Car Rental for Price Drops

Sixt Rewards is a fairly straightforward program when it comes to accruing benefits and an easy way to advance in status.

The German rental firm Sixt is unlike most other major rental companies. Drive past one of their locations, and you might see the usual vehicles such as Chevrolets, Fords, and Nissans. But you’ll also likely to see luxury cars from Audi, BMW, Jaguar, Land Rover, and Mercedes-Benz, since the goal of the company is to provide a differentiated experience for consumers.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference of a national and international rental car?

Although domestic cars are less expensive than international models, they have fewer features.

International cars tend to be more expensive but provide better comfort and safety equipment (e.g., air conditioning, seatbelts and anti-lock brakes).

It is important to consider how much you travel each day when choosing the right car.

You should consider a domestic car (local) if you are traveling more than 100 miles from the airport. These cars are usually cheaper.

However, if you're going to be driving a lot around cities and going offroad, an international model might be the best choice.

What is the most memorable road trip in Europe, and why?

The best road trips are those where you have time to stop off at interesting places along the way rather than just drive from A to B as quickly as possible.

There are many great roads in Europe, but few are as beautiful as the route between Venice and Dubrovnik.

You will drive through stunning scenery most of your trip. There are numerous stops along the road to stop and take in all the sights.

The highlights include the islands of Lido di Jesolo and Torcello on Lake Garda, the Dolomites and Lake Como in northern Italy, and the walled medieval city of Carcassonne in southern France.

What is the most accessible place to rent a car from?

Airports, rental agencies, and hotels are the most popular places to rent cars.

Use online travel sites such Expedia and Priceline to find the closest airport location.

If local rental companies have locations near where you live, they might be worth your consideration. These are usually cheaper and easier than booking on an airline website.

Consider using public transportation if renting a car in a shorter period of time than two weeks. You could take advantage of city-wide bus passes, which allow unlimited rides within a certain area.

A convertible may be available for rent if you're traveling with children. These vehicles offer more protection to their children than others.

What is the best way to rent car in Europe

A variety of websites can help you find affordable European rental cars. These include Alamo and Sixt, Europcar or Hertz. Also, you should consider booking online.

Before renting a car, you must make sure that you have all the information necessary. This includes, but not limited to:

  • Your full name including any middle names (if any)
  • The address you are staying
  • Date, time & location of pickup
  • Name and model of the vehicle that is rented
  • Name of insurance company and policy number
  • Additional equipment or special requests?
  • Details of the rental agreement (e.g., duration and rate, deposit, balance due by end of trip, excess fees, limits of liability, cancellation penalties etc.
  • Payment method(s) (credit card, debit card, cash, or personal cheque)

After you have all the information you need, you can make a booking with any of the listed companies.

Can my car policy cover me for renting cars in foreign countries

Insurance companies now cover rentals in other countries as part of their overall coverage. You may be able to get insurance coverage for damage or loss caused by renting a car in Europe from Hertz. The same is true when renting a car in Mexico. Some policies include additional protections like waivers for liability or collision damages. Ask your agent about these types.

Can you rent a car in Europe with a US license?

It depends on which country you are visiting. If you are going to France, for example, you can rent cars there but not if you want to go to Italy because they don't accept US driver's licenses.

Who is the best American car rental agency?

Hertz has unrivaled customer service. They are always available to assist you in finding the right vehicle for your occasion. They offer great prices on vehicles and have a large fleet of cars across all major metropolitan areas. You can rent for as low $10 per day.

Hertz offers 24-hour roadside assistance, free airport pick up and drop off services, and a complete line of accessories and equipment to help you drive safely around the city.

You can find a top-quality experience in car rental on the Hertz site today!

How To

Ten Tips to Rent a Car Cheapest:

Renting a car can be one of the most cost-effective ways to get around your community. You can find many companies offering services online and offline. There are many companies that offer different services, so it is important to know which type they offer before you rent a vehicle. You can choose private cars, vans, minivans, SUVs, luxury cars, etc. Some companies even offer special rates if two people are traveling together. It is a good idea to read online reviews before you choose a company to rent a car. To save money, book at least a month before your rental car is due. Book at least one month in advance to avoid paying extra fees for last-minute bookings. It's always beneficial to compare prices across different companies.

Check to make sure the company has an insurance policy.

If you're going to drive yourself, be sure to have enough gas. Companies charge higher prices per gallon. It is possible to become stuck in traffic jams when driving outside of major metropolitan areas. If this happens, public transportation might be an option. If you have a lot to carry, it might be easier to hire a taxi or shuttle van. If you do decide to take a cab, make sure to find a reputable company. Ask for referrals and check out customer reviews.

Remember that car rental agreements usually stipulate a mileage limit. Check your contract carefully and ask whether you can exceed the miles allowed. Make sure you understand how much you will pay for each mile driven.

While most companies offer free GPS navigation, you may have to pay an extra fee for satellite radio.

You should also remember that you may not be allowed to return the vehicle until after a certain time. It is important to not leave anything valuable in the vehicle.

Bring your driver’s license, passport, credit card, and proof that you have insurance. Don't forget to fill out the paperwork correctly. A confirmation email will follow with details regarding the pickup date and times. Follow the instructions and drive the car safely after you have picked it up.

You should ensure your car rental is safe once you reach your destination. Many companies require that the keys are dropped at the office. Keep the receipt handy just in case you lose something while driving. Return to the office once you are done. Now you are free to enjoy your vacation!

What to Do if You Have a Tire Blowout in a Rental Auto

Last Updated on October 23, 2022 by Laura

blowout_tIre-1024x576-2.jpgPhoto credit: Shutterstock

Renting a car should be a no-brainer in your vacation plans. The last thing you want to hear is the pop of a busted tire or the slow hiss of a tire leak. When things with the car go awry, they can alter the course of your whole trip. So before you set out on a rental car—especially when you’re far from friends and family that would otherwise help you out—it’s important to know how you will handle unfortunate scenarios. Here’s what to do if you have a tire blowout in a rental car.

Pull Over and Get Assistance

If you do find yourself in a pickle needing a new tire for your rental car, the first thing you should do is pull over to the side of the road safely. Do not slam on the brakes; instead, take your foot off the accelerator and allow the car to slow gently and pull over when it is safe. Turn your hazard lights on and call for assistance. Options include your rental car company’s 24/7 hotline, a local tow company or auto repair shop, or AAA.

Ask AutoSlash for a Quote on a Cheap Car Rental

Of course, it’s best to minimize your likelihood of a blown tire on a rental car. Check the tires for wear before you take the rental car and ask for a different car if you see a low tire pressure alert when you start the car. While you’re on the road, steer clear of hazards like unknown debris and potholes.

Car Rental 24/7 Roadside Assistance Hotlines

  • Alamo: US/Canada 800-803-4444
  • Avis: US/Canada 800-354-2847
  • Budget: US/Canada 800-354-2847
  • Dollar: US 800-235-9393; Canada 877-354-5391
  • Enterprise: US/Canada 307-6666
  • Hertz: US/Canada 654-5060
  • Enterprise: US/Canada 307-6666
  • National: US/Canada 367-6767
  • Payless: US/Canada 800-PAYLESS (729-5377)
  • Thrifty: US/Canada 877-283-0898

Who Pays for a Tire Blowout in a Rental Car?

Be aware that you could be on the hook for costs, since rental agreements state that damage caused by the renter is the responsibility of the renter. If you have damage and collision coverage from the rental company or an independent insurance company like Sure, you’ll be covered. Otherwise, you’ll have to file a claim with your personal auto insurance company or pay out of pocket.

If the issue isn’t your fault, the rental car company will likely swap you into a new rental for free. Call ahead and make arrangements to drive into a rental location and replace your faulty vehicle with a new one.

Should You Buy Roadside Assistance?

Before you even get the keys for your rental car, consider whether you will add 24/7 roadside assistance to your contract. For a few dollars a day, it might seem like a reasonable purchase for peace of mind when you’re on the road. However, if you blow a tire, the cost of the tire (or other auto parts) is not included in roadside assistance. Before making this purchase, be clear on what incidents are included in the roadside assistance. They may be very limited.

Are You Eligible for Free Roadside Assistance?

If you are an AAA member, you can completely forgo any additional roadside assistance offered for a fee through your rental car company. AAA Membership includes roadside assistance in any car, regardless of the vehicle you’re driving.

Let AutoSlash Track Your Car Rental for Price Drops

Another route to explore is your credit card benefits. Many credit cards offer perks, like roadside assistance for a tire replacement. Dive into the fine print before signing your rental car contract.

Is it possible to rent a car in Germany, and then return it to Switzerland?

Answering this question will depend on many factors including the vehicle type you are renting, how much time you plan to drive, and whether or not you have any special requirements such as child seats.

If you're driving from Munich to Zurich and don't want to hire a car, public transportation is an option. Renting a car might be a good option if your goal is to drive from Munich, Barcelona and back during your holiday.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you have a need for a car throughout Europe?

The best solution to your problem depends on where you live, what you do and how you think. A typical European urban area might have different priorities to a rural one.

It is also important to consider how long you will be staying in each country. An economical car might not be the best choice if you plan to travel frequently or if you intend to stay in one location for a long time.

In most cases, buying a second-hand car is better than renting one. It is often cheaper to buy a used car than rent one in Europe. For example, you can save money on fuel and parking fees, maintenance costs and insurance.

Another advantage is that your car allows you to drive safely.

There are many excellent websites available that offer information about car rentals in Europe. We recommend checking out our recommendations below.

Which company is the largest in car rental?

Hertz Corporation is America's largest car rental agency. Harry Hertz founded it in 1919 as Hertz Corporation.

Hertz Corporation operates over 6,000 locations across North America, Europe, Asia-Pacific, and Latin America. Additionally, Hertz Corporation owns several other businesses including hotels and real estate holdings as well as financial services and automotive parts manufacturing.

The company employs nearly 4 million people worldwide today.

Do European rental cars have automatic transmissions

Yes. Renting vehicles without automatic transmissions is not allowed by rental agencies because they are costly to replace if they are damaged while being driven around. It would be too expensive to replace all the parts every time you damage the bodywork.

Ask for an automatic transmission if you are looking to rent a car in Europe.

This way, you won't pay extra fees for booking at the last minute. It's always beneficial to compare prices across different companies.

You should also check to see if insurance is required by the company.

You should ensure that you have enough gas if you plan to drive your own car. Most companies charge higher prices per gallon. Break This Picture Before Returning a Rental Automobile

Last Updated on October 17, 2022 by Laura

gas-gauge-photo-1024x576-2.jpgPhoto credit: Shutterstock

With gas prices going sky high throughout the United States, it’s no surprise that rental car companies are far more strict about how much gasoline is in the fuel tank when you return your vehicle. When returning a rental car, there’s a crucial step to take to protect yourself from false fees.

Lately, some travelers are reporting indiscernible fuel charges when returning their rental with a full tank—even though they just filled up before returning the car. And when rental car companies charge up to triple the cost of fuel that you’d purchase at a gas station, these surprise fees are hardly unnoticeable.

Ask AutoSlash for a Quote on a Cheap Car Rental

What can you do to avoid paying a fuel charge when returning a rental car full of gas? There are some simple steps.

Take a Picture of the Gas Gauge

Come prepared when you contest any errant fuel charges on your rental car receipt. The most important thing you can do is take a picture of the gas gauge when you return the rental car. It will also be helpful to save the metadata that provides details, like exact location and the time you took the picture, to ensure your photo is indisputable.

Take a Picture of Your Gas Receipt

Documenting where and when you refueled will provide backup when you contest wrongful fuel charges upon your rental car return. Make sure your receipt picture shows the gas station address, the number of gallons purchased, and the total cost. It will prove that you purchased fuel before returning the rental vehicle. Whatever fuel was used to drive a few miles from the gas station to the rental car company should not cost you extra fees. It sounds overboard—until you get charged two-to-three times the amount you paid at the gas station to return the car with a full tank.

Let AutoSlash Track Your Car Rental for Price Drops

The bottom line is that you can always appeal charges you believe were made in error. Just be sure to plead your case with as much evidence as possible.

In this case, the phrase “a picture is worth a thousand words” takes on a completely new—and helpful—meaning.

How To

How can I make sure that I don't get charged for damage done to my car before it is rented?

Consider, for example, what happens to the rental vehicle if you drive it for only a few minutes before returning it back to the rental agency. What happens if your rental car gets scratched? This is a very common issue for those renting cars from different companies. Even if the customer did not cause any damage to their car while renting it, some agencies will charge them. Ask whether charges will be made for scratches or dents to the vehicle. This is a way to avoid such fees. These are the steps you can take to ensure that no charges will be made for damage done before renting a car.

  1. Ask for a scanned copy of the agreement.
  2. Make sure you read the description.
  3. Take care to read all the fine print.
  4. Ask for a free cleaning service
  5. You should be careful about the condition of your vehicle.
  6. Make sure you don't leave any items behind in your car
  7. You should always bring cash when renting a vehicle.
  8. Keep all receipts;
  9. Never allow anyone to touch the car without permission.
  10. Never accept a gift offered by the company.
  11. Reputable rental agencies are recommended.
  12. Always bring your contract.
  13. The car must be returned in good condition.
  14. Send your contact information to the agent
  15. Avoid using the same company as often as possible;
  16. Write down important details about the car, such as the mileage, model, engine size, color, etc. ;
  17. Take photos of the damage;
  18. Do it yourself.
  19. A third party should inspect your car.
  20. Do not agree to pay additional fees

What to Do if You Shed Your Vehicle driver's Certificate While Taking a trip

Last Updated on September 30, 2022 by Katrina

You’re asked for your ID and check your wallet. The sensation of panic starts in your stomach and spreads from your head to toes. What should you do if you lose your driver’s license while away from home?

Your driver’s license, after all, is a vital travel tool. It not only grants access to your rental car and your flight but smooths your entrance to hotels, bars, and any number of situations. Still, losing yours on a trip doesn’t necessary push you off the grid. The first step is to take a few breaths and regroup. Here’s how to get your problem solved:

Report Your Lost License & Tap the DMV

If you think your ID was stolen, file a police report immediately. Having proof of that report can help ease you through various obstacles along your travels.

Ask AutoSlash for a Quote on a Cheap Car Rental

Next, go online to your state’s DMV website. See if you can secure a temporary replacement license on the spot. Most states will allow you to print a temporary license or registration document instantly when you replace it online. (Even if you don’t have access to a printer, you can simply download the PDF to your phone.) These transactions allow you to download your temporary document in PDF format to use until you receive your new document in the mail. Some states, like Texas, also offer this license replacement service by phone.

Otherwise, if you have not yet picked up your rental car, you definitely have a challenge in picking up the car without having your driver’s license. But having a police report or temporary license in hand will help. If you belong to the rental agency’s loyalty program, that may help too, since you have an established track record with the company.

Likewise, if your trip involves getting on a plane, you’ll face some added hurdles trying to fly without your driver’s license. In this case, be sure to get to the airport extra early, and tell the folks at the TSA security checkpoint what’s happened. You’ll have to go through a separate screening process. You’ll be asked for other identifying information that they can confirm before sending you through. (If you’re traveling with family members who have ID, that will help).

What if You Get Stopped by the Police?

If you lose your driver’s license after you pick up your rental car and don’t have any flights, don’t worry too much. Not carrying your license is not the same as being an unlicensed driver. If by chance you get stopped for a traffic violation, the police officer can quickly look you up to confirm that you are indeed a licensed driver. You might get a ticket, or a “fixit-ticket” that only incurs charges if you can’t later prove that you corrected the situation.

Plan Ahead for the Future

Your best strategy, though, is to have a backup license. Some states, such as Louisiana, have developed digital-wallet driver’s licenses that are stored on your phone; check your own DMV to see if that could be an option for you.

Let AutoSlash Track Your Car Rental for Price Drops

In the meantime, keep a photo of your license stored on your phone in an encrypted digital wallet. While you’re at it, save pictures of your passport and auto insurance card, too. At the very least, keep the number of your driver’s license somewhere that is accessible on your smartphone. This will allow parties like police and rental car companies to verify your identity on the spot, should you not have your license.
